REVIEW: Black Widow was decent

It took y'all 11 years to make a Black Widow movie?? WORD???? That's disappointing. (I know it took me 5 days to do this review get off my case)

Black Widow came out last Friday and I got the chance to watch it, did I like it? I guess.

Black Widow takes place after the events of civil war and before the events of infinity war, the movie promised to explain Widow's origin. It didn't but at least we get to know how she got this cool vest she wore in infinity war.

The movie focuses on Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow played by Scarlett Johanson as she's on the run from the military after the events of civil war. During her time as a fugitive she learns that the red room (Where she was trained) is still operational after the supposed death of the man who ran it. Natasha now has to team up with her former false family in order to stop him and his new assassin Taskmaster who can copy the fighting technique of whoever they see.

This movie feels like a sequel to a movie that never existed. I liked it though, the action set pieces were your typical run of the mill mission impossible spy action movie stuff but that's always entertaining. The movie has a lot of car flips(which Natasha had NO BUSINESS SURVIVING) and a lot of sky dives and flips and all that good stuff.

The movie's best part in my opinion are its side characters

Like Yelena (Aka best girl) played by Florence Pugh who killed it in the role. She serves as the annoying little sister and the voice of commentary on superheroics and the larger MCU. She's honestly the best part of the whole movie and her and red guardian made me forget it was a Black Widow movie, which is sad but we move.

Speaking of Red Guardian (played by David Harbour from Stranger Things).... HILARIOUS. This man was the driving force for all the comedy which admittedly was his inevitable downfall considering the writers focused more on him being a funny incompetent dad than him being Russia's first super soldier which was disappointing.

There's other characters but I won't dive too deep into them but I am however disappointed in how they handled Taskmaster.

Taskmaster was a total disappointment, the Taskmaster in the comics is snarky and sarcastic and an all around great antagonist, but this one just felt like Deadpool from X-Men origins, nothing but a mindless killing machine.

Another thing I didn't like was how the movie had references to what happened in Budapest without showing us what happened in Budapest.

It felt like there was a whole other movie they planned to make and didn't and this was the sequel.

Scarlett Johanson's performance was flawless as usual but it's like her character didn't have much to do or say and the spotlight was given to the side characters and this vague backstory of hers that I guess we'll never know.

Though with all the negatives I did love the movie's underlining theme of female empowerment and family.

Black Widow with all it's flaws was a decent and very entertaining movie, nothing groundbreaking but definitely worth the watch.

Solid 6/10
